El Fondo para Prácticas Éticas de Arte Transfronterizo se estableció originalmente como parte del legado que dejó el Sintonizador Fronterizo de Rafael Lozano-Hemmer en la frontera de El Paso-Cd. Juárez. Su misión es apoyar y promover el trabajo de artistas que se comprometan de forma ética y significativa con nuestra comunidad transfronteriza a través de proyectos que utilicen la práctica social, la creatividad y los múltiples lenguajes del arte contemporáneo.

The Fund for Ethical Practices of Transborder Art was originally established as part of the legacy that Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s Border Tuner left behind in the Cd. Juárez-El Paso borderlands. It aims to support and promote the work of artists committed to engaging our transborder community ethically and meaningfully through projects that employ social practices, creativity and the many languages of contemporary art.

Luces brillantes es un Archivo Audiovisual Online de personas LGBT+ que viven en el norte de México. En una etapa inicial, el proyecto abordará a personas que habitan en Ciudad Juárez y El Paso para visibilizar cómo esta condición de frontera determina la cotidianidad de las personas LGBT+ en relación a otras zonas geográficas del país, resaltando aspectos positivos de dichas personas para contrarrestar los discursos de odio que aún prevalecen en nuestra sociedad fronteriza. Con Luces Brillantes pretendemos aportar, desde el arte, a la sensibilización de la población y también buscamos que dicho archivo sirva como herramienta para contribuir a la lucha en contra de la discriminación y los discursos de odio que aún prevalecen en nuestra sociedad norteña. Luces Brillantes será el primer archivo en línea con estas características en la región norte del país.
Paco Burrola es artista audiovisual, diseñador gráfico y diseñador web. Actualmente trabaja en su proyecto “In nowheres”, el cual es un film de corte experimental que toma elementos de la música y el cine de ficción para abordar la Zona del Silencio.
Jorge Scobell es artista visual, cineasta y gestor cultural. Su obra se ha exhibido en museos y festivales de cine en México, Estados Unidos y Europa. En 2017 recibió el Premio Ojo y el Premio Hermanos Alva por mejor cortometraje en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia. Luces Brillantes es la primera colaboración juntos y de la cual se desprende “Un nombre propio”, un proyecto de cine documental que aborda la historia de varias personas trans del estado de Chihuahua y su proceso legal para lograr el cambio de identidad de género en sus documentos personales.
Bright Lights is an online audiovisual archive of LGBT+ people who live in the north of Mexico. Initially, the project will engage people that live in Juárez and El Paso, to make visible the ways in which living on the border impacts the everyday life of LGBT+ people in contrast to other geographical regions of the country; it will offer a counter narrative to the prevailing hate speech that still prevails in our border society. Initially, the project will be the first archive with these characteristics in the northern region of the country. Bright Lights is an attempt to sensitize, through art, the population in northern Mexico where hateful rhetoric is still rampant and we hope that the archive ca become an instrument in the fight against discrimination. Bright Lights will be the first such archive in northern Mexico.
Paco Burrola is an audiovisual artist, graphic and web designer. He is currently working on “In nowheres,” an experimental film about the Mapimí Silent Zone that borrows elements from music and sci-fi films.
Jorge Scobell is a visual artist, filmmaker and cultural agent. His work has been shown in museums and film festivals in Mexico, the US and Europe. In 2017, he was the recipient of the Premio Ojo and Hermanos Alva award for best short at the Morelia International Film Festival. Bright Lights is their first collaboration, which has spawned “Un nombre propio” (A name of their own), a documentary film that tells the story of several trans individuals in Chihuahua and their legal journey towards changing their gender and identity on personal documentation.
El cortometraje Skatas busca representar la realidad de dos jóvenes fronterizas confrontándose a un territorio que no está pensado para que sus cuerpos lo habiten. A la vez que ellas lo atraviesan el territorio las atraviesa a ellas también. Como la frontera geopolítica impuesta. Será llevado a cabo con un grupo de mujeres jóvenes que buscan aprender a hacer cine. La frontera a determinado mi manera de ver el mundo. Es una grieta física, geopolítica pero también interior. Es como una cicatriz que llevas en el cuerpo. Que te recuerda de dónde vienes y que me ha hecho entender porque me siento siempre como en un lugar indefinido, borroso. Porque las categorías cerradas nunca me han servido para definirme. Es un reto para las mujeres fronterizas hacer cine. Y más aún con un equipo de mujeres jóvenes que están en proceso de aprendizaje. Es hacer un equipo de personas que entendemos lo que es venir de los márgenes de la sociedad y de esta Ciudad. Porque aquí se hace cine, y por lo tanto se cuentan historias desde perspectivas muy privilegiadas y categorizadas.
Alejandra AragÓn es una artista visual originaria de Cd. Juárez, México. Utiliza varios medios para explorar las intersecciones entre representación, género, territorio, violencia e identidad desde una perspectiva decolonial. Formó parte del Seminario de Producción Fotográfica del Centro de Imagen de la Ciudad de México en 2017. Entre 2013-2020 su trabajo fue expuesto en México, E.U.A, Canadá, Uruguay, Holanda, Alemania y Georgia. Ha recibido apoyos del Fondo Nacional para la Cultura y las Artes (FONCA), el Programa If / Then del Tribeca Film Institute, del Austin Film Society y la Asociación Nacional de Artes y Culturas Latinas (NALAC). Fue miembro del Masterclass Joop Swart 2020 de World Press Photo y nominada al Premio Leica Oskar Barnack 2021.

The short film Skatas (Skaters) seeks to represent the reality of two young border women confronting a territory that is not designed for their bodies to inhabit. As they cross it, the territory crosses them as well like the imposed geopolitical border. The project will be carried out with a group of young women seeking to learn how to make films. The border has determined my way of seeing the world. It is a physical, geopolitical but also internal rift. It is like a scar that you carry on your body. That reminds you of where you come from and that has made me understand why I always feel as if I exist in an undefined, blurred place because closed categories have never served to define me. It is a challenge for border women to make films. And even more so with a team of young women who are in the process of learning. It is to make a team of people who understand what it is to come from the margins of society and this City. Because cinema is made here, and therefore stories are told from highly privileged and categorized perspectives.
alejandra AragÓn is a visual artist from Juárez, México using various mediums to explore intersections amongst representation, gender, territory, violence and identity from a de-colonial perspective. She was part of the Photography Production Seminar of the Image Center at México City in 2017. Between 2013-2020 her work has been exhibited throughout México, USA, Uruguay, Canada, Netherlands, Germany and Georgia. She has been awarded grants from the Mexican Arts Fund (FONCA), The Tribeca Film Institute If/Then Program, Austin Film Society and the National Association for Latino Arts and Cultures (NALAC). She was a member of the 2020 Joop Swart Masterclass of World Press Photo and a nominee for the Leica Oskar Barnack Award 2021.

El proyecto “El Regreso Responsable” tiene como objetivo la reactivación de espacios públicos (calles, parques, plazas, canchas, etc.) con metodologías de diseño participativo adaptado a los requerimientos de la nueva normalidad y la ciudad post-covid (distanciamiento físico, arte asfalto, mobiliario urbano individual, señalética sanitaria y estrategias de sanitización pública). A través de este proyecto se fomenta una estrategia lúdica-educativa de espacios públicos emergentes que promueven el aprendizaje y la reflexión colectivas sobre cómo llevar a cabo una vida pública responsable y coexistir en la ciudad post-pandemia, a través de medidas urbanas-sanitarias que inciden en la preservación de la salud, el bienestar sociocultural y el reforzamiento de los lazos comunitarios.
NÓmada Lab es una oficina multidisciplinaria con sede en Ciudad Juárez que desarrolla proyectos, estrategias e intervenciones urbanas que inciden en la mejora de las ciudades, el espacio público y el bienestar sociocultural de las personas. A través de metodologías participativas como el urbanismo táctico, el placemaking y el arte comunitario buscan generar la transformación de las comunidades, desde un enfoque local, democrático e inclusivo.
Nómada Lab tiene operando en el territorio fronterizo desde 2014 y ha logrado extender sus actividades a ciudades como El Paso, Las Cruces, Ciudad de México, Oaxaca, Monterrey y Mérida.

The “Responsible Return” project aims to reactivate public spaces (streets, parks, squares, courts, etc.) with participatory design methodologies adapted to the requirements of the new normal and the post-COVID city (physical distancing, asphalt art, individual urban furniture, sanitary signage and public sanitation strategies). Through this project, a playful-educational strategy of emerging public spaces is promoted that promotes collective learning and reflection on how to carry out a responsible public life and coexist in the post-pandemic city, through urban-health measures that they affect the preservation of health, sociocultural well-being and the strengthening of community ties.
NÓMADA Lab is a multidisciplinary bureau based in Ciudad Juarez that develops urban projects, strategies and actions that advocate for the betterment of cities, the public space and the sociocultural wellbeing of citizens. Using participatory methodologies like tactical urbanism, placemaking and community art, Nómada Lab attempts to transform communities through local, democratic and inclusive efforts.
Nómada Lab has been active in the borderlands since 2014 and has been able to expand their activities to cities like El Paso, Las Crices, Mexico City, Oaxaca, Monterrey and Mérida.

Cicatrix Sonata es una colaboración de danza transfronteriza prsentada como una serie de tres video danzas en las que los interpretes exploran barreras artificiales tanto físicas como mentales durante la cuarentena a través de la voz y el movimiento. El proyecto explora el tema de la opresión: la opresión física de los grupos, las minorías, etc., así mismo como las maneras en las que nos oprimimos y nos traicionamos nosotras mismos. Nos encerramos en las prisiones que creamos en nuestra propia mente lo cual luego impacta la mayoría de nuestras acciones y decisiones. Con estos videos intentamos demoler cuantas barreras sean posibles para interconectarnos mejor entre nosotros y con nuestra comunidad durante estos tiempos de aislamiento tanto físico como mental. Para una cultura fronteriza que depende de los cruces diarios, el cierre de la frontera ha sido extremadamente limitante y ha alterado la realidad de mucha gente. Queremos compartir maneras en las que podamos seguir comunicando y colaborando con otros artistas, especialmente aquellos que no pueden salir de Juárez, y así llevar el baile en vivo a nuestra comunidad a través de videos que cualquier persona podrá ver. También estaremos realizando interpretaciones en vivo en ambos lados de la frontera.
Somos de la frontera entre Juárez y El Paso y nuestro trabajo se enfoca en lo efímero de todo, tanto lo físico como la intangible. Durante nuestros performances transmutamos lo abstracto convirtiéndolo en una manifestación física, una experiencia pasajera pero cuyo eco reverberará a lo largo del tiempo y el espacio. Ofrecemos una experiencia presencial que entreteje el movimiento, la voz y la danza. Nuestro arte se enfoca en temas referentes a la opresión y el silencio, así como las muchas maneras en las que refleja tanto las sombras como la luz que existe dentro de cada uno de nosotras. Nuestro objetivo es presentar un arte que provoque sensaciones verdaderas que permitan interacciones genuinas para recordarles a todas lo que significa ser humano.

Cicatrix Sonata is a cross-border dance collaboration presented as a series of three dance videos in which two dancers explore created barriers, both physical and mental, during quarantine through voice and movement. The project explores the theme of oppression: the physical oppression of groups, minorities, etc, as well as the ways in which we oppress ourselves and betray ourselves. We lock ourselves into a cage we create in our own mind which then affects most of the actions and choices we make. With these videos we intend to break down as many barriers as possible in order to better connect with each other and our community, both physically and mentally, during these isolating times. For a border culture whose lives depend on daily crossing, the closing of the border has been extremely limiting and has altered the reality for many people. We want to present ways we can continue to communicate and collaborate with other artists, especially those forced to remain in Juarez, and bring live dance to our community in the form of dance videos anyone can watch. We will also be doing live performances on both sides of the border.

Este proyecto consiste en realizar intervenciones urbanas con una pieza/instalación de arte público donde se llevarán a cabo ejercicios de lectura en voz alta o de representación oral libre, la cual podrá ser trasladada a diferentes zonas de la ciudad. Será una obra interactiva, a manera de cubo de percusiones o jaula de voz que a su vez funcionará como un escenario y un hábitat para lectores-performers invitados, quienes activarán la obra, así como transeúntes y usuarios ocasionales. Esta obra estará compuesta por dos elementos centrales: una estructura metálica manipulable que cumple un fin sonoro, y la palabra viva, es decir, la palabra dicha por los usuarios. Dentro de su estructura se promoverá la autorrepresentación por medio de la palabra y el performance, por eso como parte indispensable del proyecto se realizarán talleres de Spoken Word Poetry con la intención de formar una comunidad diversa cuyos diálogos sirvan para establecer vínculos de reconocimiento y respeto. Además, con la intención de crear una memoria sobre estos acontecimientos, se realizará un fanzine recopilatorio de la obra escrita durante los talleres y una colección de videos de las participaciones dentro de la instalación.
Manuel Alberto Herrera Delgado (1994), creador literario que ha incursionado en diversas modalidades de la expresión corporal como el performance y la danza. Gestor y promotor cultural que desde 2015 se ha dedicado a abrir espacios que alberguen aconteceres culturales y promuevan la crítica social y del arte. En independiente y desde el Colectivo Palabra Brava, La Cloaca Literaria y el Laboratorio Cultural Fronterizo ha coordinado jornadas, coloquios y festivales culturales con colaboradores e invitados nacionales y extranjeros. Actualmente dirige el proyecto La Palabra y el Cuerpo, desde donde se promueve la investigación, la creación literaria y las practicas multidisciplinarias que involucren prácticas de la oralidad y de la expresión por medio del cuerpo. Su propuesta artística mayormente atañe su experiencia como un ser fronterizo formado en espacios precarios de la urbe.
This project consists of a series of urban interventions through a transportable installation of public art that will house outloud readings of self representation and oral freedom. It will be an interactive piece akin to an echo chamber that will also function as a stage and a habitat for both guest readers, performers, passersby and occasional users. The piece will consist of two main elements: a malleable, metal frame for sound purposes and the living word, which is to say the words spoken by the users. Its structure will promote self-representation through the spoken word, that is why it’s important to hold Spoken Word Poetry workshops that will hopefully shape a diverse community where new links can be established through respect and recognition. On top of every thing else, and in order to develop an archive, we will publish a fanzine that will collect the works written during the workshops and a video collection of the participants using the installation.
Manuel Alberto Delgado (b. 1994) is a creative writer that has also explored different forms of expression like performance and dance. As a cultural agent, he has advocated for the creation of spaces that host cultural happenings and promote critical thought on art and society. He has coordinated festivals, conferences and colloquiums both independently and as part of the collectives Palabra Brava, La Cloaca Literaria and Laboratorio Cultural Fronterizo, featuring guests and collaborators both foreign and domestic. Currently, he heads the project La Palabra y el Cuerpo, which advocates for research, creative writing and multidisciplinary practices that incorporate orality and using the body as a form of expression. His artistic endeavors deal mostly with his own experience on the border shaped in precarious urban spaces.
El arte debe ser una respuesta directa y un reflejo de su época, así como una re-imaginación de una realidad tangible. En este sentido, GeoTestimonios re-imagina la inmensa brutalidad y refleja la alegría que ha sido la realidad para muchas personas que se identifican como mujeres que viven en la región fronteriza de Juárez / El Paso. Pensado como una reapropiación de nuestros testimonios en vivencias personales y a través de narrativas literarias, GeoTestimonios es una cartografía viva y comunitaria que arroja luz a testimonios / memorias / recuerdos que se guardan en nuestro cuerpo sobre lugares particulares del Cd. Región fronteriza Juárez-El Paso. A través de la creación de un mapa interactivo y exhibición digital de la región fronteriza, identificará lugares que contienen testimonios / memorias / recuerdos a través de la literatura, experiencias personales y / o efímeras (visuales o de audio) de las dos mujeres fronterizas que crean este proyecto. El proyecto de mapeo será de acceso público e interactivo y servirá como una respuesta directa a la realidad diaria de vivir en la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México en el pasado y en el presente. El proyecto estará íntegramente en línea en su propio sitio web bilingüe (inglés-español) y, una vez en vivo, permitirá que otras, escritoras / personas que se identifiquen como mujeres (lesbianas o transgénero), registren sus propios recuerdos o agreguen una pieza literaria corta, fotografías. o cualquier material visual en el mapa interactivo. Los participantes son libres de incorporar sus historias en el idioma en el que se sientan más cómodos. Este trabajo es una colaboración entre la poeta y escritora fronteriza Gris Muñoz y la académica y humanista digital Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla.
Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla es una orgullosa transfronteriza, nacida y criada en la frontera entre Ciudad Juárez y El Paso. En el 2019 obtuvo un doctorado en Español con especialidad en Literatura, Lenguaje y Cultura Latina en Estados Unidos y en la Frontera Mexicana del Departamento de Estudios Hispanos en la Universidad de Houston. Sus intereses académicos incluyen la literatura en la frontera MX-EU, el lenguaje y la cultura, feminismos interseccionales y transnacionales, estudios fronterizos, estudios del archivo y las humanidades digitales.
Gris Muñoz es una Chicana con ascendencia Apache, poeta y narradora de la frontera. Es la autora de la colección bilingüe de poesía y cuento corto Coatlicue Girl, que recientemente fue nombrada por el Instituto Texano de Letras como finalista para el premio John A Robertson para el mejor libro de poesía debut.
Su colaboración, Geotestimonios Transfronterizxs, es un proyecto de cartografía y narrativa digital que busca documentar las experiencias de mujeres que viven en la frontera de Juárez y El Paso.
Art should be a direct response and reflection of its times, as well as a re-imagining of a tangible reality. In this sense, GeoTestimonials reimagines the immense brutality as well as reflects the joy that has been the reality for many woman-identifying people living on the Juarez/El Paso border region. Intended as a re-appropriation of our testimonios in personal experiences and through literary narratives, GeoTestimonios is a living and community cartography that sheds light to testimonios/memories/recuerdos that are kept in our bodies about particular places in the Cd. Juárez-El Paso Border region. Through the creation of an interactive map and digital exhibit of the border region, it will pinpoint places that hold testimonios/ memories/recuerdos through literature, personal experiences, and/or ephemera (visual or audio) of the two border women creating this project. The mapping project will be publicly accessible and interactive and will serve as a direct response to the daily reality of living on the US/Mexico border in the past and in the present. The project will be entirely online on its own bilingual website (English-Spanish) and once live, will allow others, writers/people that identify as women (lesbian or transgender), to record their own memories or add a short literary piece, photographs or any visual material on the interactive map as well. The participants are free to incorporate their stories in the language they feel more comfortable. This work is a collaboration between border poet and author Gris Munoz and academic and digital humanist Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla.
Sylvia Fernández Quintanilla is a proud transfronteriza, born and raised in the Cd. Juárez-El Paso border area. In 2019, she earned a Ph.D. in Spanish with concentration in U.S. Latino & Mexican Border Literature, Language and Culture, from the Department of Hispanic Studies at the University of Houston. Her research interests include U.S.-Mexico Border Literature, Language and Culture, Intersectional and Transnational Feminisms, Border Studies, Archival Studies, and Digital Humanities.
Gris Muñoz is a Xicana of Apache descent, frontera poet and storyteller. She is the author of the bilingual poetry and short-story collection, Coatlicue Girl, most recently named a finalist for the John A. Robertson Award for Best First Book of Poetry by the Texas Institute of Letters.
Their collaboration, GeoTestimonios Transfronterizxs, is a digital map and storytelling project that aims to record the experiences of women living on the El Paso/Juarez border.
El comité inaugural, conformado por Janette Terrazas Islas (Artista independiente), Kerry Doyle (Directora del Rubin Center for the Visual Arts, UTEP) y León De la Rosa Carrillo (Profesor-Investigador del Departamento de Arte, UACJ) seleccionará los proyectos acreedores de esta convocatoria y se compromete a darle seguimiento a la visión original del fondo y a integrar nuevas voces independientes en futuras iteraciones.
The inaugural committee are Janette Terrazas Islas (independent artist), Kerry Doyle (Director of the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts, UTEP) & León De la Rosa Carrillo (Art Professor, UACJ), who will select the projects awarded through this fund and are committed to follow through on the original vision of it and to incorporate new, independent voices in future iterations.
Szu-Han Ho emplea el performance, la instalación y el sonido para explorar la relación entre los cuerpos y diversos sitios de la memoria. A menudo trabaja de forma colaborativa a través de acciones colectivas, improvisaciones estructuradas y composiciones compartidas. El trabajo de Szu-Han se ha expuesto en Tokyo Wonder SIte, SOMA (CDMX), VSF (Los Angeles), Southern Exposure (San Francisco), Tulsa Artist Fellowship Flaship, y el festival de teatro Revolutions International. Szu-Han ha sido acreedora del Art for Justice Fund Grant (2020) y el Art Matters Grant (2019). Szu-Han vive y trabaja en Albuquerque, New Mexico y co-fundó fronteristxs, un colectivo que trabaja a favor de la justicia migratoria y la abolición de la prisión. Actualmente, Szu-Han es docente en el programa de Arte y Ecología del Departamento de Arte en la Universidad de Nuevo México.
Szu-Han Ho’s work in performance, sound, and installation explores the relationship between bodies and sites of memory. They often work collaboratively, through collective action, structured improvisation, and group composition. Szu-Han's work has been exhibited at Tokyo Wonder Site, SOMA (Mexico City), VSF (Los Angeles), Southern Exposure (San Francisco), Tulsa Artist Fellowship Flaship, and Revolutions International Theatre Festival. Szu-Han has been a recipient of the Art for Justice Fund Grant (2020) and Art Matters Grant (2019). Szu-Han lives and works in Albuquerque, New Mexico and is a founding member of the fronteristxs, an artist collective working on migrant justice and prison abolition. Szu-Han is currently an associate professor in Art & Ecology in the Department of Art at the University of New Mexico.
Liz Misterio (Ciudad de México, 1985) Artista visual, gestora cultural y curadora independiente, investigadora y editora especializada en arte, feminismo y cultura.
Es directora de la revista digital de arte, género y sexualidad Hysteria!, forma parte del equipo organizador del Anormal Festival, es miembrx del colectivo de arte feminista Invasorix.
Se desempeña como docente en la Facultad de Artes y Diseño de la UNAM, en la asignatura “Laboratorio de arte corporal” y dirige el grupo de investigación sobre arte contemporáneo y género NoaNoa Instituto de Investigaciones en la misma institución.

She is the director of Hysteria! Revista, a digital magazine dedicated to the exploration of the intersections of art, gender and sexuality. She is member of the organizer committee of the An*rmal Festival, is a member of the feminist art collective Invasorix.
She works as a professor at the Arts and Design Faculty at the UNAM, where she also directs the research group on contemporary art and gender “NoaNoa Instituto de Investigaciones”.
Daisy Quezada Ureña es una artista multidisciplinaria, es profesora y jefa del departamento de prácticas artísticas en el Instituto de las Artes del Indio Americano en Santa Fé, Nuevo México. Como parte de su práctica produce cerámica, instalaciones y libros de artista que se conectan temáticamente con ideas sobre la identidad y el lugar en relación con estructuras sociales que van más allá de fronteras impuestas. Sus antecedentes culturales con raíces tanto en México como Estados Unidos la han moldeado. Su trabajo une lo personal con lo social y se relaciona con la migración, la inequidad de género y las problemáticas laborales y de clase que han resultado en una población devaluada y perdida aún dentro de su propia cultura. En el 2016 Quezada Ureña co-fundó Present Cartographers [Cartógrafos del Presente] un colectivo interesado en desarrollar estrategias y perspectivas provenientes de artistas y escritores estadounidenses y del resto del mundo en medio de una crisis migratoria y el resurgimiento de reclamos territoriales en áreas fronterizas. Su trabajo se ha exhibido en Estados Unidos y el resto del mundo ampliamente.
Daisy Quezada Ureña is multidisciplinary artist, faculty and studio arts department chair at the Institute of American Indian Arts in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Within her practice she creates ceramic works, installations, and artist’s books that thematically connect to ideas around identity and place in relation to social structures that cross imposed borders. She is informed by her cultural background from both Mexico and the United States. Her work bridges the personal to the social, forming a relationship to immigration, gender inequality, labor, and class issues that have resulted in a population that has been left devalued and lost within their own culture. In 2016, she cofounded Present Cartographers, a collective invested in strategies and perspectives from national and international artists and writers amid a migration crisis and resurgence of territorial claims in local and international border zones. Quezada Ureña has been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Artista y activista feminista que utiliza el arte como una herramienta de incidencia social, así como para cuestionar y promover un diálogo en torno a los Derechos Humanos, está especializada en temas de género. Acciona desde la práctica social en donde convergen el arte y el activismo, siendo la participación ciudadana un elemento clave en su trabajo. Resultó seleccionada para la creación del Memorial para Lesvy y las Víctimas de Feminicidio y participó en el Festival Tiempo de Mujeres 2020 con “Trinchera”, intervención fotográfica permanente de un tren del STC Metro de la Ciudad de México. En 2021 co-fundó y actualmente co-coordina DISIDENTA: Comunidad de práctica social + saberes feministas.
Feminist artist and activist, who uses art as an instrument of social intervention, while questioning and fostering dialogues around themes of Human Rights focusing on gender issues. She works through social practice where art and activism converge, with public participatory engagement being one of her work’s main intents. She was chosen to create the Memorial for Lesvy & Femicide Victims and was part of the 2020 Tiempo de Mujeres Festival with Trinchera (Trench) a permanent photo installation in a Mexico City subway train. In 2021, she co-founded DISIDENTA, a community of social practice and feminist knowledge, which she currently co-coordinates.
Fernanda R. Avendaño (1992) obtuvo su título de maestría en Estudios Literarios en la Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez. Su investigación se enfoca en la literatura de la frontera, la literatura escrita por mujeres y las maternidades disidentes. Además de ser escritora, desempeña roles como gestora cultural, editora independiente y mediadora promotora de lectura. Opera de forma activa en iniciativas sociales que fusionan el arte y el activismo de la cultura de paz para acompañar a mujeres e infancias en situaciones de vulnerabilidad. Trabaja en humanizar y mejorar la habitabilidad de los entornos que afectan especialmente la infancia y juventud en riesgo, utilizando la literatura como una herramienta transformadora.
Fernanda R. Avendaño (1992) obtained her master's degree in literary studies at Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez. Her research focuses on border literature, literature written by women, and dissident maternities. In addition to being a writer, she works as a cultural developer, independent editor, and reading promotion mediator. She actively participates in social initiatives that combine art and activism based on peace culture to support women and children in vulnerable conditions. Her work focuses on humanizing and improving the living conditions in environments that affect children and youth, using literature as a transformative tool.
Karina Breceda: es una activista fronteriza que se enfoca en la Justicia Materna Migrante y una artista residente en Saint Joseph's Home for Artisans con sede en Boston.
Cuenta con experiencia de más de 11 años en el desarrollo y ejecución de centros de apoyo con un enfoque en programas multidisciplinarios dirigidos a maternidades y las necesidades migratorias emergentes.
Es cofundadora y actual directora de Stellar Shelter:New Wave Feminists Consistent Life Ethic Center en Ciudad Juárez y el Centro de Hospitalidad Casa Maris en El Paso, Texas, que atiende las necesidades perinatales y tiempo de puerperio de mujeres y niños en la frontera.
Karina Breceda: is a fronteriza activist focusing on Migrant Maternal Justice. She’s currently an Artist in residence at Saint Joseph’s Home for Artisans based in Boston.
She has more than 11 years of experience in developing and implementing community centers with a focus on multidisciplinary programs dedicated to maternity and emerging migratory needs.
She is the co-founder and current director of the Stellar Shelter: the New Wave Feminists Consistent Life Ethic Center in Ciudad Juárez and Casa Maris Hospitality Center in El Paso, Texas, which attends the perinatal needs and postpartum time of women and children at the border.
Laura Augusta: realizó su maestría y doctorado en Historia del Arte en The University of Texas at Austin (2005, 2012), y la licenciatura en Arte y Literatura en Georgia College & State University (2003).
Actualmente se desempeña como curadora en el Rubin Center for the Visual Arts en UTEP. Sus proyectos curatoriales y ensayos conectan los paisajes de ciudades propensas a desastres, reflexionando específicamente sobre inundaciones y lodo, el espacio compartido y formas cotidianas de resistencia: su escritura desde la ciudad de Guatemala fue galardonada con The Andy Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant. Completó la beca Core Fellowship en The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, y fue una de las primeras Mellon Arts + Practitioner Fellow en el Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration. Como curadora independiente durante casi una década, ha elaborado exposiciones en museos, galerías universitarias y espacios dirigidos por artistas en los EE.UU. y Centroamérica.

She completed the Core Fellowship at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and was an inaugural Mellon Arts + Practitioner Fellow at the Yale Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration. As an independent curator for almost a decade, she curated exhibitions at museums, university galleries, and artist-run spaces across the U.S. and Central America.
Jorge Scobell: Es artista visual y gestor cultural. Ha exhibido su obra en museos y festivales de cine en México, Estados Unidos y Europa. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido con El Ojo y el Premio Hermanos Alva en el Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia en 2017, por mencionar algunos. En 2021 fundó Proyecto Plexo, una organización sin fines de lucro que fomenta la producción artística contemporánea en el estado de Chihuahua. Mismo por el que fue acreedor del Fondo Transborder.
Jorge Scobell: is a visual artist and cultural developer. He has exhibited his work at museums and film festivals in Mexico, United States and Europe. His work has been recognized with El Ojo and Premio Hermanos Alva award at the Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia in 2017. During 2021 he founded Proyecto Plexo, a non-profit organization that fosters contemporary art production in Chihuahua. Same project for which he was awarded with Fondo Transborder grant.

A través de su habilidad artística, hace poderosos tejidos de cambio, retando las narrativas del cambio climático, ecología, inequidad de género, y problemáticas políticas. Así, transformando los hilos en catálisis de conversaciones, y destejiendo las complejidades de nuestro mundo a través de narrativas de resiliencia y esperanza. En el mismo espíritu de la frontera vibrante, sus textiles se convierten en un medio para el cambio social, invitando a los espectadores a involucrarse con urgentes problemáticas globales a través del lente de la creatividad y compasión.
Jane Terrazas: Jane (Mexico, 1985) is a visionary textile artist hailing from the Ciudad Juarez, Mexico border. Through her artistry, Jane weaves a powerful tapestry of change, challenging narratives surrounding climate change, ecology, gender inequality, and political issues, transforming threads into catalysts for conversation and unraveling the complexities of our world through a narrative of resilience and hope. In the vibrant borderland spirit, her textiles become a medium for social change, inviting viewers to engage with pressing global issues through the lens of creativity and compassion.
alma maquitico: es la Directora Ejecutiva de la Red Nacional Pro Derechos de los Inmigrantes y Refugiados (NNIRR). Su trabajo se ha centrado en el desarrollo de iniciativas para abordar el desarrollo rural, el cambio climático y los derechos humanos. Durante los últimos veinte años, ha brindado asistencia técnica a varias organizaciones de base que abordan la alimentación, la agricultura y la sostenibilidad ecológica con comunidades de migrantes y refugiados en las zonas fronterizas entre Estados Unidos y México. Además, Alma ha ayudado a construir redes fronterizas para monitorear y documentar violaciones de derechos humanos resultantes de la aplicación de la ley de inmigración en comunidades a lo largo de la frontera entre Estados Unidos y México.
alma maquitico: is the Executive Director of the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights. (NNIRR). Her work has centered on developing initiatives to address rural development, climate change, and human rights. Over the past twenty years, she has provided technical assistance to various grassroots organizations addressing food, agriculture, and ecological sustainability with migrant and refugee communities on the US-Mexico borderlands. Additionally, Alma has helped built border wide networks to monitor and document human rights violations resulting from immigration enforcement in communities along the US-Mexico borderlands.
alejandra Galaviz: Alejandra Galaviz es productora, directora, actriz, e investigadora que se enfoca en el teatro y el cine. Fue directora del Grupo Representativo de Teatro de la UTCJ entre 2011- 2012. Fundó el Proyecto Molière, encargándose de la dirección general en el 2014. Desde el 2020 es parte de la Asociación Mexicana de Investigación Teatral (AMIT) dentro del Seminario de Actoralidades de la Escena Contemporánea.
Actualmente es la directora del grupo Batas Blancas scenic lab., que busca experimentar con diversos procesos creativos y borrar las fronteras disciplinarias de las artes escénicas y visuales. Así mismo, se ha dedicado a difundir su trabajo de investigación en torno al teatro mexicano en distintas universidades y diversas publicaciones en revistas y blogs especializados en artes escénicas.
alejandra Galaviz: Alejandra Galaviz is a producer, director, actor and researcher focused on theater and film. From 2011 to 2012 she headed the theater company at UTCJ. In 2014, she started Proyecto Moliere, which she also headed. She is a member of the Mexican Association of Theater Research since 2020.
Currently she heads the collective Batas Blacas scenic lab., which aims to experiment with different creative processes and to blur the boundaries between scenic and visual arts. Likewise, she has also published and presented her research on Mexican theater and the scenic arts in several different universities, journals and specialized blogs.
JosÉ Luis Castillo CarreÓn: es un activista social que ha participado en la defensa de los derechos humanos y los derechos de las mujeres desaparecidas y violentadas en Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua.
Tras la desaparición de su hija Esmeralda Castillo Rincón en 2009, ha estado al frente de diversas manifestaciones y protestas exigiendo justicia y atención a su caso. Ha organizado actividades como el Esmeraldatón, una carrera para niñxs y jovenxs con la que busca visibilizar las problemáticas de género que enfrenta la localidad y mantener viva la memoria de su hija. Así mismo, realiza charlas dirigidas a estudiantes de escuelas secundarias y preparatorias enfocadas en su labor como activista.
JosÉ Luis Castillo CarreÓn: is a social activist engaged in the defense of human rights and the rights of women in Juarez that have been the victims of violence and enforced disappearance.
After his daughter Esmeralda Castillo Rincón disappeared in 2009, he began heading demonstrations and marches to raise awareness and demand justice for her. Among other events, he created the Esmeraldatón, a yearly race in memory of his daughter and meant for children and young people to recognize the gender issues that exist in the city. He also gives talks to middle and high school students where he addresses his activism.
Gris MuÑoz: Gris Muñoz is a frontera poet, performer and essayist. She is the author of Coatlicue Girl, a collection of poetry and short stories based on her life experiences and memories of the border. She is currently commissioned to write the biography of acclaimed L.A. artist, Fabián Debora. Gris is a Chicana of Apache descent.
Gris MuÑoz: Gris Muñoz es una poeta fronteriza, performer y ensayista. Es la autora de “Coatlicue Girl”, una colección bilingüe de poesía y cuentos cortos centrados en su vida y sus memorias de la frontera. En este momento esta comisionada para escribir la biografía de la aclamada artista de Los Ángeles, Fabián Debora. Gris es Chicana de ascendencia Apache.
Manuel Herrera Delgado: Creador literario que ha incursionado en diversas modalidades de la expresión corporal como el performance y la danza. Gestor y promotor cultural que desde 2015 se ha dedicado a abrir espacios que alberguen aconteceres culturales y promuevan la crítica social y del arte. Desde el Colectivo Palabra Brava, La Cloaca Literaria y el Laboratorio Cultural Fronterizo ha coordinado jornadas y festivales culturales con colaboradores e invitados nacionales y extranjeros. Productor de trabajos audiovisuales de arte e investigación documental. Coordina el proyecto multidisciplinario “La Palabra y el Cuerpo”, gestionando instalaciones de arte público para la lectura en voz alta.
Manuel Herrera Delgado: Creative writer that has experimented with a diverse range of expressive body languages like dance and performance. Has been developing and promoting cultural programs since 2015 and creating spaces that house cultural happenings and foster art and social criticism. Through the Palabra Brava Collective, La Cloaca Literaria and the Cultural Lab Fronterizo, he has coordinated cultural festivals and encounters with national and international guests and collaborators. He produces audiovisual pieces of art and research. He coordinates the multidisciplinary project “la Palabra y el Cuerpo,” which produces public art installations for the purpose of spoken word performances.
Cecilia Velasco Rivera: Licenciada en trabajo en Trabajo Social, Maestra en Psicología con especialidad educativa. Experiencia centrada en procesos psicoeducativos con juventudes en situaciones vulnerables. Activista social con interés en el cuidado del medio ambiente. Coordinadora de proyectos sociales promotores de cultura, salud mental y reinserción educativa.
Cecilia Velasco Rivera: Holds a bachelor’s on Social Work and a Master’s on Psychology with an emphasis on education. Her experience is centered on psycoeducational processes of young people in vulnerable situations. She is a social and environmental activist. She manages social projects that foster cultural expressions, mental health and educational reinsertion.
Kerry Doyle: Directora del Rubin Center for the Visual Arts en UTEP. Se especializa en proyectos curatoriales que son interdisciplinarios, participativos y performativos con énfasis en la frontera como territorio y como tema.
Doyle colabora frecuentemente con personas e instituciones tanto en Juárez como en El Paso para desarrollar una amplia gama de programación comunitaria e interdisciplinar. Es licenciada en Ciencias Políticas por la Universidad De Paul en Chicago y en Dibujo y Grabado por la Universidad de Texas en El Paso, donde también obtuvo una maestría en Estudios Fronterizos.
Kerry Doyle is the Director of the Rubin Center for the Visual Arts at UTEP. She specializes in curatorial projects that are interdisciplinary, participatory and performative, with a special focus on the border as subject and site.
Doyle regularly collaborates with individuals and institutions from both El Paso and Ciudad Juarez in the execution of a wide range of interdisciplinary and community-engaged programming. She holds a BA in Political Science from De Paul University, Chicago; a BA in Drawing and Printmaking and an MA in Border Studies from UTEP.
